FAQS

Why should I rust proof my vehicle?

Manufacturers have come a long way with making high quality cars. However, they cannot cater to the specific corrosive regions of each country. In Canada, there are regions that are considered highly corrosive due to the fluctuations in weather patterns. Ontario is one of these regions. Also, in Ontario millions of tons of salt and de-icing agents are used each year which are highly corrosive agents. Rust proofing your car will help slow down the corrosive process in such climates and combat the corrosive nature of salt and de-icing agents.

Also, unibody vehicles are more susceptible to rust. The panel's structural integrity can be compromised by rust, so protecting it with rust protection will help retain the structural stability of your vehicle.

Why should I rust proof at my dealership instead of a local retail shop that does rust proofing?

Dealerships provide the highest quality, state-of-the-art products, for your vehicle while some retail products can actually be harmful to your vehicle. Sym-Tech® products do not require drilling into the panels of your vehicle which can void your vehicle's manufacturer's warranty. The payment for the product can also be built into your financing. Also, it is backed up by a third party insurance company so that in case your dealership of the supplying company goes out of business your warranty is still fully covered.

Is it true that the products applied to my vehicle will drip and stain my driveway?

Absolutely not! Sym-Tech® products are not oil-based products and will not drip or stain your drive way.

Are Sym-Tech® products considered toxic and hazardous to my health?

No. Sym-Tech products are not toxic and hazardous to your health when used according to the directions on the product label and must be applied by a professional only.

Why should I choose Sym-Tech's Electronic Corrosion Control (E.C.C.) module over any other electronic rust protection module?

Sym-Tech's E.C.C. module is the only product in the Canadian market that has a self-diagnostic function built in. This means that it will detect faults and shut the unit down until it is fixed. Also, the E.C.C. module is made of state-of-the-art solid state technology - parts that are certified for use on spacecrafts! Unlike most electronic rust protection in the market, the E.C.C. module does not use cathodic or impressed currents which does not protect your vehicle from corrosion unless it is under water or buried underground.

How does electronic corrosion protection compare to traditional rust proofing?

Sprays and coatings are good where they can reach, but the Electronic Corrosion Control (E.C.C.) module can reach more of the surface of the vehicle than traditional spray-on rust proofing. The E.C.C. module can be more effective than traditional applications because the entire vehicle's sheet metal is protected and the protection is not dependent upon the quality or the amount of product used or the quality of the application.

Will the Electronic Corrosion Control module work with traditional rust proofing?

Absolutely! The Electronic Corrosion Control module will improve and enhance any traditional system already on your vehicle.

My car already has some rust – will the Electronic Corrosion Control module help?

The Electronic Corrosion Control module has been proven to slow the corrosion rate in painted automotive grade steel and can slow the spread of existing rust. Naturally, any existing vehicle body rust should be repaired at the earliest opportunity.

Do I have to return every year to my Dealer to re-apply my rust protection?

No, you do not need to return for any re-application of the product. However, if you have an inspection warranty, you are required to return to your selling Dealer for inspections. See warranty for details.

What must I do to maintain my warranty?

If you are on an Inspection Coverage Warranty you must return to an authorized Sym-Tech dealer for an inspection every 24 or 12 months within 30 days of original date of application. See warranty for details.

What should I do if I see rust on my car?

Damage, once begun, may spread substantially unless repairs are promptly made. In order to minimize any additional damage, contact your Selling Dealership as soon as possible to initiate a claim.

What happens if I miss an inspection?

As outlined on the warranty, missing inspection(s) void your coverage. See warranty for details.

What happens if I move or if my dealership closes?

Any dealership is authorized to do inspections, however Sym-Tech® is not responsible for the fees incurred due to inspections. Contact our Warranty Department to find a dealership in your area or ask about our No Inspection Warranty.

What should I use to wash my car?

Do not use dishwashing detergent. Use any reputable car shampoo that can be purchased at your local retail hardware stores.

Should I wax my vehicle if I have purchased Paint Protection?

No, it is not necessary. Waxing will not further protect your vehicle if you have Sym-Tech® paint protection. However, waxing your vehicle does not decrease the effectiveness of your paint protection.

How long can I leave a spill before I bring my car into the dealership?

Like any spill in the household, it is best to wipe down with a damp cloth as soon as possible. It is not recommended to leave a spill to sit.

I smoke in my vehicle, are cigarette burns covered under my warranty?

Cigarette and cigar burns are only covered if you have purchased the Rip, Tear & Burn Warranty. There is a $25 deductible for cigarette and cigar burns. See warranty for details.
